Special Education School

Our School Program has been certified by the State Department of Education as an approved private special education program since 1960. It is offered as an alternative placement to school systems and families for children ages three to 21 with multiple developmental and/or medical needs, e.g., cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, seizure disorders, neuromotor diseases and/or medical conditions requiring nursing support services. The student's tuition and transportation is funded by the LEA choosing, in concert with parents, to place him or her in the program. Private pay is also accepted.

The School is in session 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, for the 180-day school year and for six weeks in the summer to provide a 12-month continuum of educational instruction and therapeutic intervention essential to many students with special needs.

Classes are small and homogeneously assigned by the student's age, interests and abilities. Physical, occupational and speech/language therapy services are provided based on the student's individual needs.

A special education teacher, education assistants and prescribed therapists comprise the student's instructional team. Other specialized support is available, including nursing, specialty physician consultation, adaptive equipment and augmentative communication.

Placement in the School at the FEROLETO Center can represent an interval of intensive instruction and intervention in preparation for enrollment in a less restrictive, public school program or the complete educational experience through high school. Split programming that enables a student to attend the School for part of a week and public school for the remainder is also an option.

Children residing in SVSNS' Children's Residential group homes attend the FEROLETO Center for their education and therapy programs.
