Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in volunteering with our organization, we would like to talk to you.

Working with Individuals with Special Needs
Our most consistent need for volunteers is within our three major program areas, the school, our adult day programs, and our residential programs for both children and adults. In each of these areas, you would have the opportunity, under the supervision of our staff, to work directly with children or adults with special needs.

You might be facilitating an individual to play or enjoy a leisure-time activity, to learn a new skill, or to participate in an outing into the community. You might also be able to share a special talent you have for music or art with those individuals we serve. Most important, we would welcome hearing about your interests in and needs for volunteering to make the best match of your time and talents

Volunteer opportunities in our school and adult day programs exist between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. In the residential programs for children and adults, volunteers are generally welcome in the late afternoon and evening hours weekdays and during the day on Saturday, Sundays and major holidays.

Volunteers working directly with the children and adults we serve must go through an interview process and submit to certain background information checks.

As for time commitment, we ask that volunteers give a minimum of two hours of service a week on a consistent schedule of reliability.

Providing Support to Fundraising
We conduct annual and one-time fund raising events that are highly dependent on volunteer support and welcome new hands and hearts to these committees. Our annual “LAST BASH of Summer” Dinner Dance, held in September each year, and our new “Golf Classic” tournament, also scheduled for September, are wonderful opportunities for putting your creative energies to work for a good cause. The LAST BASH raises money for adaptive equipment for the individuals we serve; the Golf Classic supports our programs for adults.

Career Exploration
High school and college students interested in or already pursuing careers in special education, the physical, occupational, and speech pathology disciplines and other specialities in the human services field are invited to inquire about volunteer opportunities that may be currently available for observation and hands-on activity.
